Violations of Probation Can Be Categorized As:

Technical Violation — this is probably the more common violation and occurs when a person on probation fails to comply with one of the conditions set forth by the judge at the original time of sentence. Examples of technical violations include breaking curfew, failing to report, failing to pay costs of probation, failing to pay court costs or restitution, and failing a drug test. New Law Violation — this occurs when a person who is on probation is arrested for a new offense. A new law violation can and probably will occur even in the event that the probationer commits a minor offense, such as a second-degree misdemeanor.
